What are Legal Lift Modifications?

By admin · Comments (1)
Thursday, April 19th, 2012

What are the legal lift regulations and restrictions? This is what many Jeep and off-road enthusiasts ask all the time. The laws vary by state and it is best to contact your local law enforcement agency (state police or highway patrol) to find out about your area to avoid being ticketed. A great website to check for state by state information is LiftLaws.com. Besides being ticketed for certain modification offenses, insurance companies can refuse coverage. Protect yourself from these circumstances by doing a little research first on what is acceptable, and be upfront and honest with your insurance company, certain companies will allow modifications.

The 2010 Jeep® “Rocks and Road Tour”

By admin · Comments (1)
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

What do air shows, fairs, festivals and Jeep® Brand ultimate off-road test courses have in common? Apparently a lot, since a new “Jeep® Rocks and Road Tour” has rolled into cities across the country, giving consumers and Jeep® owners a sneak peek into the private world of Jeep® testing. With obstacles simulated to recreate the rigorous testing that Jeep® vehicles undergo before they are presented to the consumer world, Jeep® offers an “inside” experience to those who want it, and the opportunity to test-drive the new 2011 Jeep® Vehicle Line-up, including the 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee!

“We have created the Jeep Rocks & Road Tour to provide our current and potential customers with an adventurous experience that is exclusive to the Jeep brand,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “We are partnering with various venues across the country to reach out to our loyal Jeep consumers, while branching out to those with new interest in the one-of-a-kind Jeep brand. This tour provides an ideal venue to experience the countless features and legendary capability offered in the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, as well as the other vehicles in the Jeep brand family.”

Trained instructors will be on hand to assist those attending with navigation through various off-road situations, such as log crossings, steep grades and rocky trails. The event even offers a “Jeep Playground” for Jeep® owners who brought their own ride to the show. For families attending with their children, there will be “Power Wheels” mini-Jeep vehicles and rock climbing walls.

The next “Jeep® Rocks and Road Tour” is scheduled for this weekend (August 27th – August 29th) at the Offutt Defenders of Freedom Air Show in Bellevue, NE (near Omaha, NE). All drivers must present a valid Driver’s License and be 18 years of age or older.  Friday, August 27 is a special, Jeep-only day, as the Offutt Defenders of Freedom Air Show will not start until Saturday, August 28. Due to space restrictions, there will be no Jeep Owner’s Playground at this Jeep Rocks & Road Tour event.

Both the Offutt Defenders of Freedom Air Show and Jeep Rocks & Road Tour are free and open to the public.

Jeep Recovery Tips

Useful Jeep Offroad and Recovery Tips

Summer is here, and that means you’re probably ready to change out that hardtop, clear your weekend schedule and plan to hit the trail, right? Then that means you are going to need to prepare yourself for the ever-present possibility of a rollover, breaking down, or getting stuck in the mud! Here are some trail essentials you will need to stay safe and avoid injury:

1. Common sense.
Sounds ridiculous, but some of us simply lose our head when we are hit with the rich smells of dirt, open air and freedom… If you find yourself in a bad situation, rememember to stay safe (come prepared), check out the situation BEFORE you try that recovery technique you learned on YouTube, don’t make decisions in a hurry, and work calmly and patiently. You’ll be back up and running soon enough!

2. If you’ve rolled:
Take some time to check your fluid levels (radiator, brake master cylinder, power steering, and tranny and engine oil). BEFORE trying to start your engine, pull the spark plugs and spin the engine with the starter to evacuate any fluid to prevent hydrolocking the engine.

3. Using a recovery strap (snatch strap):
Recovery straps are great for pulling out a vehicle that has been stuck in a bog or ditch. They are a great alternative to chains, as they are weather resistant, lightweight, and easy to carry. The stretchability of the recovery strap paired with a winch attachment is a strong, safe way to go when your vehicle is stuck, especially because they help prevent further damage to your vehicle. DON’T think that a towing strap is a suitable substitute for a recovery strap. Towing straps are not as strong as recovery straps – it yours should break during a recovery, you could be seriously injured or killed. A recovery strap is flat with sewn loops and no hooks. They are nylon, not polypropylene or dacron or chain. As a general rule of thumb, each inch of width will allow you to pull out about 10,000 lbs. Typically, a 2″ or 3″ wide recovery strap will be suitable for an emergency recovery.
