The last year before the end of the world…

The year 2011 will be here in a few days and this year will be better,  or WILL it?  The Mayan calendar forecasts 2012 to be the end of the world as we know it. Nostradamus’ prophecies foretell the heavens to rain frogs mid 2012. NASA found a giant meteor that is scheduled to hit us on Dec. 21, 2012. Do I have your attention now? Good. All those crazy things you thought about doing last year, saying “hey, that would be nice”, probably would be, if only you could find the time… Considering that this could be your last normal year, maybe you should set some realistic goals for yourself…

In 2011…

I will drink from the milk jug!
I will become fit by pushing my JK to work!
I will reduce stress in 4wd and listen to loud music!
I will get out of debt by living in my Mopar camper!
I will help my fellow Jeeper!
I will get my wilderness gear organized!
I will make a pilgrimage to Moab!
I will make fire like Bear Grylls!
I will eat like a cave man!
I will SURVIVE!

Using a Jeep to Plow Snow – Overview

The best tool in my box is my Jeep. Moving a ton of snow is just one more reason to say “Jeeps Rock”! One of our commenters, Asa Jay Laughton, suggested we do a little research on using your jeep for plowing snow…and here is an overview of what we found. A four wheel drive Jeep with the correct tires, enough counterweight and a proper fitted snow plow can move as much snow as the rest. A winch is also a great way to pull “other” vehicles out of the snow bank. Most of the commercial snow plow manufacturers have a rig to fit nearly all  Jeep models which leads me to believe that the Jeep has been pushing snow from the start.

In fact, in 1946 the Meyer snow plow company used the CJ-1 or Civilian Jeep to showcase their snow plows in advertisement literature. In researching companies that carry snow plows, I found that they tend to separate vehicles out by trucks, SUV’s, ATV’s, UTV’s, tractors and Jeeps, listing Jeep as an entirely different class on its own. Ron Spraggins’ 1986 CJ7 Restoration

Mr. Ron Spraggins and his 1986 CJ-7 is our showcase of the week. This beast has been completely overhauled and refitted with a ZO6-LS6 Corvette engine pushing 475 hp. This is a Mad Jeep!

I’M JUST FINISHING A FRAME UP RESTORATION ON MY ORIGINAL 1986 CJ7 JEEP, THE LAST OF THE REAL JEEPS, LOL. I BOUGHT THE CJ NEW IN 1986, PUT 0VER 200K MILES ON THE ORIGINAL 6. I WAS GETTING TIRED OF THE “RICE BURNING SUV’S” SMOKING ME WHEN GOING UP THE MOUNTAIN PASSES, ON THE INTERSTATE, ETC. & TO UPSET ME MORE, THEY WERE GETTING BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

WHEN I FOUND OUT IT WAS $3,000 TO OVERHAUL THE OLD 6, I STARTED LOOKING AT A NEWER JEEP. IT WAS GOING TO BE IN THE $30K RANGE FOR A NEW RUBICON TYPE & STILL BASICALLY STOCK, SO HENCE THE Z06- LS6 CORVETTE CRATE ENGINE.

IT WILL LITERALLY BLOW OFF MOST PORSCHES, VETS, STREET RACERS, and ETC. FOR SOME DISTANCE (In a straight line). I ALSO OWN A 1997-993 PORSCHE C4 CABRIOLET AND IT WILL SMOKE IT UNTIL 100 MPH! PLUS IT WILL PERFORM WITH THE BEST OF THE OFF ROAD RIGS, EXCEPT FOR TRAILERED ROCK CRAWLERS.

THE JEEP HAS BEEN TO OVER 20 HIGH LAKES (10-13,000 FEET) IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO AND OVER MANY OF THE “FEARED” TRAILS. WITH OVER 400 LBS OF TORQUE, IT WILL CRAWL UP STEEP TERRAIN WITH EASE. I ALSO GET 22 MPG AT 70 MPH.

Jeep Concept Truck – The NuKizer 715

Jeep Truck Concept Vehicle - The Nukizer-715

Spotted this year at the SEMA show, this Mopar-Kaiser love-child is ripe with modern customizations and pays direct homage to the Kaiser M-715… Besides casting an impressive shadow on the shop floor, this concept vehicle is certainly unique, right down to the paint job, a color whose inspiration came directly from the Mopar Underground’s “industrial gray” shop trash can…

Playing with the old concept of the 1/4 ton military vehicle that was itself inspired by the Jeep Gladiator, the Mopar team took it even further, spinning a new Jeep concept truck with customizations that include: A stretched 124″ wheelbase, exclusive Bestop® Soft Top, Gen-Right tank (made specifically for NuKizer 715), a Warn 9.5XP low-profile winch equipped with a Master Pull synthetic winch line, Warn air compressor, Terraflex dual-rate front sway bar and Garmin GPS Map 640 navigation unit.

For those who don’t know, the SEMA Show is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world. Although this event is not open to the general public, it manages to draw the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center.

As part of the AAIW, the SEMA Show attracts more than 100,000 industry leaders from more than 100 countries for unlimited profit opportunities in the automotive, truck and SUV, and RV markets. Many awards were given at this year’s show, including an award for “Best New Interior Accessory Product,” held by none other than our friends over at Rugged Ridge and OMIX-ADA for their interior trim kit for the 07-2010 JK Wrangler.
